Speakers will share key outcomes of the Conference and future priorities for global tobacco control. Details regarding speakers and connection links have previously been shared with the media. The Eleventh Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP), the governing body of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, took place from 17 to 22 November. The WHO FCTC is the first-ever treaty negotiated under the auspices of the WHO and one of the most widely embraced United Nations treaties in history, with 183 Parties to the Convention. Illicit trade of tobacco products fuels the tobacco epidemic and undermines tobacco control by increasing access to – often cheaper – tobacco products. The availability of illicit tobacco poses a threat to public safety by weakening security and fostering corruption and organized crime. More information here. Friday, 28 November Release of the Progress toward measles elimination – worldwide, 2000–2024 report and the Immunization Agenda 2030 Mid-term Review The Progress toward measles elimination – worldwide, 2000–2024 includes the latest global and regional estimates on measles cases and deaths and progress towards global measles elimination targets outlined in the Immunization Agenda 2030 and the Measles and Rubella Strategic Framework 2021–2030. The report will be published in the Weekly Epidemiological Record (WER) on Friday, 28 November. The Immunization Agenda 2030 Mid-term Review will also be published, highlighting progress towards global immunization targets, including measles elimination. The IA2030 decade runs from 2021 to 2030; 2025, therefore, represents a critical mid-point to take stock of progress and identify necessary shifts for the rest of the decade. ******** Release of the WHO’s first global guideline on infertility Infertility affects one in six people globally and can cause significant distress, stigma, and financial hardship. Access to care remains severely limited, with tests and treatments often resulting in catastrophic financial expenditures. The first WHO guideline for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infertility, to be released on 28 November, will guide the countries in ensuring equitable, evidence-based care for individuals and couples with infertility. It includes 40 recommendations that seek to strengthen the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infertility and promotes cost-effective options at every stage, while advocating for the integration of fertility care into national health strategies, services and financing.
