The past year presented administrators with perhaps the greatest test of their lifetimes and careers, pitting them against a global pandemic that shuttered schools, forced a transition to fully remote learning, and challenged them to continue providing meals for high-needs students, special education programming and other services.
Finding an area of K-12 not impacted by COVID-19 is a hard task in itself, yet 2020 also brought a dual crisis demanding just as much urgency and care: a national reckoning with systemic racism spurred by the police-involved deaths of Black Americans.
