| The U.S. EPA released its final National Recycling Strategy today. The agency says this plan will help the country achieve a 50% recycling rate by 2030. Circular economy and environmental justice are big new themes in the plan that were not mentioned when the document draft first came out in October 2020. There are lots of other details in this long-awaited document, including five main strategy objectives: improving markets for recyclables, increasing and improving collection, reducing contamination in the stream and creating circular economy policies. It also calls for standardizing measurement practices and increasing the collection of data needed to achieve the goal. This is a developing story, so stay tuned for further details as they become available. What do you think of the EPA’s new national strategy?
