For questions and interview requests, please contact mediafctc@who.int International Epilepsy DayInternational Epilepsy Day, celebrated each year on the 2nd Monday of February, is an opportunity to raise awareness of epilepsy, what it is, how it can be treated, and what is needed to ensure all people living with epilepsy can access the treatment they need. Around 50 million people worldwide have epilepsy, making it one of the most common neurological diseases globally. WHO and partners are working to improve care and support for people living with epilepsy by targeting poor access to medicines, lack of knowledge of epilepsy care, the impacts of stigma and discrimination, and under-investment in epilepsy research. Also see: fact sheet  Tuesday, 13 FebruaryUniversal Health and Preparedness Review: First Global Peer Review13 and 14 February 2024 The first pilot global peer review of Universal Health and Preparedness Review (UHPR) will take place in Geneva, on 13 and 14 February. The Central African Republic, Portugal and Thailand will present the findings of their national reports reviewing how well prepared they are – across sectors - for health emergencies; and will engage in a dialogue with other Member States. The UHPR is a new, voluntary and transparent peer review mechanism, that aims to establish a regular dialogue between Member States and increase accountability and transparency among countries for better health emergency preparedness. They build on over 60 years of guidance by WHO on drinking-water quality and safety, and together update and supersede WHO’s 1997 guidance addressing the surveillance and control of community supplies.
