Click here Sunday, 26 May 2024 WHA Highlights Day 1 of the 77th World Health Assembly (27 May) The Seventy-seventh World Health Assembly (WHA) opens at the Palais des Nations in Geneva at 09.00 tomorrow, 27 May. On its first day, the WHA will meet in Plenary, General Committee and Committee A. The detailed programme of work can be found in the Daily Journal N°1, available in six languages of the United Nations (UN). Simultaneous interpretation will be available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. The working hours of the Health Assembly are from 09.00 to 12.00 and 14.30 to 17.30 CEST. Highlights of the day:
During the high-level welcome segment, H.E. Elisabeth Baume-Schneider, Federal Councilor of the Swiss Confederation will address the Assembly on behalf of the host country. The delegates will also hear from the Special Guest of Honour H.E. Mohamed El Ghazouani, President of Mauritania and Chairperson of the African Union and Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee. H.E. António Guterres, UN Secretary-General, H.E. Anwar bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, H.E. Srettha Thavisin, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand and H.E. Ursula Von der Leyen, President of the European Commission will deliver video statements. The detailed run of show is contained in this media advisory. At the end of the high-level welcome, Dr Tedros will present Director-General’s Award for Global Health to two distinguished scientists and professors, in addition to H.E. Mia Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados, who received her award at the Launch of WHO Investment Round event on Sunday, 26 May. In the morning, the Health Assembly will elect its General Committee, which will meet in private to, among others, adopt the agenda and programme of work for WHA77, discuss the submission of any supplementary agenda items to the Assembly, and allocate agenda items to the main committees.
