First meeting of the International Health Regulations (2005) Emergency Committee regarding the upsurge of mpox 2024

Please find the report of the first meeting of the Emergency Committee regarding the upsurge of mpox 2024, as transmitted by the WHO Director-General.

In this report you will find:

Temporary Recommendations issued by the WHO Director-General to the States Parties of the International Health Regulations (IHR 2005). These temporary recommendations are issued to States Parties experiencing the upsurge of mpox, including, but not limited to, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. They are intended to be implemented by those States Parties in addition to the current standing recommendations for mpox, which will be extended until 20 August 2025 and are presented at the end of this document for easy reference.
A description of the proceedings of the meeting, including the presented data and the discussions of the committee.

Note: Under the IHR (2005), Temporary Recommendations automatically expire three months after their issuance. Emergency Committees are therefore reconvened at least every 3 months to review the current epidemiological situation and to review whether the event continues to be a public health emergency of international concern and whether changes need to be made to the Temporary Recommendations. A statement of the Emergency Committee meeting is published on the WHO website after each meeting of the committee.
