Mia Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados and Quadripartite principals will explain the significance of the High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and contextualize the political declaration, particularly the commitments and targets, as a major milestone. The media briefing will be streamed live on UN WebTV (please note that questions can not be asked via this link). Notes to journalists: The second High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance (10.00 to 18.00 EDT, 26 September, UN Headquarters and online) will be the principal official, health-focused event during the UNGA High-level Week. Without decisive action, such as that outlined in the political declaration for the meeting, AMR will cause even more global suffering, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The intergovernmental negotiations for the declaration were co-facilitated by Malta and Barbados. WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus will speak during the opening segment (10.00 to 10.45 EDT on 26 September, live-streamed on UN WebTV).
