WHO at the Climate Week NYC 22 to 29 September, New York, USA The Climate Week NYT will take place in conjunction with the UNGA and serve as a global platform for advancing climate action and sustainability. It will be an opportunity to report back on the key decisions made since COP28, to outline the health-related initiatives planned at COP29 and aspirations for COP30, and to call for raising ambition, accelerating concrete action and mobilizing finance for health. Combatting climate change and its devastating impact on the path to ending TB UNGA High-level Week side event, 14:00 to 16:30 EDT, 23 September, New York The event will build upon the successes of the 2023 UN High-level Meeting on TB and commitments made by world leaders, notably on tackling the key drivers of the TB epidemic, including climate change. It will bring together Ministers and other leaders, Heads of Agencies, partners and civil society, to discuss progress toward global targets, including on closing gaps in access to care for people with TB, recognizing the impact of climate change and the interventions being undertaken for a climate-resilient TB response. New research on trends in adolescent health 08:00 to 10:00 EDT, 23 September, Westin Grand Central, New York During an event taking place during the high-level Summit of the Future in New York, WHO will launch and discuss findings from a new scientific publication on trends in adolescent health, published in the Journal of Adolescent Health. The research shows that mental and sexual and reproductive health, as well as nutrition, are critical challenges for the world's youth, and makes the case for concerted and sustainable investments in adolescent health and well-being. Wednesday, 25 September Launch of guidance for best practices for clinical trials 13:00 to 14:30 CEST, online WHO has developed new guidance on best practices for clinical trials to reinforce global standards in the organization, design, conduct, analysis, and reporting of clinical trials. The guidance is a pivotal tool for strengthening the global clinical trials ecosystem, enhancing the efficiency and credibility of clinical research, and promoting public trust in the outcomes of research and evidence base for health interventions. Further information about this launch and the registration for the virtual event: here Thursday, 26 September Second High-level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance at UNGA 10:00 – 18:00 EDT, UN Headquarters and online The second High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) on 26 September 2024 will be the principal official, health-focused event during the UNGA High-level Week. Without decisive action, such as that outlined in the political declaration for the meeting, AMR will cause even more global suffering, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The intergovernmental negotiations for the declaration were co-facilitated by Malta and Barbados. WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus will speak during the opening segment, to be held from 10.00 to 10.45 EDT on 26 September and livestreamed on UN WebTV. A media briefing on the High-level Meeting on AMR will be held from 09.00 to 09.30 EDT on 26 September, with PM Mia Mottley of Barbados, the WHO Director-General and other Quadripartite principals.
