21 October 2024 MEDIA ADVISORY Hybrid WHO Press Conference on the launch of the 2024 Global Tuberculosis Report WHEN: Tuesday, 29 October 2024, 10:45-11:30 EST / 15:45-16:30 CET (Geneva) (embargo lifts on 29 October 2024, 11:30 EST / 16:30 CET) WHAT: Hybrid Press Conference - Virtual and in-person at the National Press Club, Washington DC The World Health Organization is releasing the 2024 edition of its Global Tuberculosis (TB) Report on 29 October. The report features data on disease trends and the response to the epidemic from 215 countries and areas, including all 193 World Health Organization (WHO) Member States. It provides a comprehensive and up-to-date assessment of the TB epidemic, progress in the response at global, regional and country levels, as well as on the impact of the drivers of the TB epidemic. In 2023, TB returned to being the world’s leading infectious disease killer, following three years in which it was replaced by coronavirus disease (COVID-19), and caused almost twice as many deaths as HIV/AIDS. This year’s report presents data on an increase in the number of people falling ill with TB. It also presents the status of progress towards targets set at the 2023 United Nations General Assembly high-level meeting on TB as well as the targets of the WHO End TB Strategy and the Sustainable Development Goals. Speakers: - Dr Tereza Kasaeva, Director, Global TB Programme, WHO
- Ms Cheri Vincent, TB Division Chief, US Agency for International Development (USAID)
- Shaka Brown, TB survivor and advocate, We Are TB
