Click here Friday, 18 October 2024 | Issue 276 © WHO / Fanjan Combrink 20-26 October International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week: Bright Futures Begin Lead-Free From 20-26 October 2024, the world will observe the twelfth annual International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week. Over 50 events are set to take place globally, raising awareness of the devastating and permanent effects of lead exposure, especially on children's health. This year’s theme, "Bright Futures Begin Lead-Free," highlights the urgent need to eliminate global lead exposure. WHO and its partners are calling for immediate action to protect children's developing nervous systems, as no level of lead exposure is safe. WHO identifies lead as one of the top 10 chemicals of major public health concern. Global call to action on lead poisoning prevention news story 21-25 October The seventy-fifth session of the World Health Organization Regional Committee for the Western Pacific will be held from 21 to 25 October 2024 in Manila, Philippines. Monday, 21 October Addressing musculoskeletal conditions: an opportunity for health systems globally Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions impact individuals globally, contributing significantly to years lived with disability (YLD). The burden extends to health systems, influencing health care costs and rehabilitation needs. This webinar series aims to initiate early discussions and involve key stakeholders in addressing this critical matter, paving the way for further attention and awareness. The WHO Clinical practice guideline for influenza has been updated and expanded to apply to patients with seasonal influenza viruses, pandemic influenza viruses and novel influenza A viruses known to cause severe illness in infected humans.
