Monday, 28 October Joint statement by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the World Health Organization: What are healthy diets? Released alongside the 2024 Committee on World Food Security (CFS) and COP16, this joint statement outlines four key principles of what constitutes a healthy diet. It comes at a time of increasing definitions and perspectives around healthy diets and seeks to clarify an official stance based on the latest scientific literature and underpinned by norms and guidelines developed by both WHO and FAO. The joint statement is also being released in the lead-up to COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan in November 2024, reflecting a focus on agrifood systems and how we can protect and promote a healthy food environment in every context. Tuesday, 29 October Hybrid WHO Press Conference on the launch of the On 29 October 2024, 10:45-11:30 EST / 15:45-16:30 CET (Geneva) there will be a Virtual and in-person press conference at the National Press Club, Washington DC. The World Health Organization is releasing the 2024 edition of its Global Tuberculosis (TB) Report on 29 October. The report features data on disease trends and the response to the epidemic from 215 countries and areas, including all 194 World Health Organization (WHO) Member States. It provides a comprehensive and up-to-date assessment of the TB epidemic, progress in the response at global, regional and country levels, as well as on the impact of the drivers of the TB epidemic. (embargo lifts on 29 October 2024, 11:30 EST / 16:30 CET) Join via Zoom: Link: Phone: Wednesday, 30 October G20 high-level meeting on One Health 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM (GMT-3), 30 October, Rio de Janeiro This event, co-hosted by Quadripartite (FAO, UNEP, WHO, WOAH) collaboration on One Health and the government of Brazil under their G20 Presidency, will emphasize the vital role of robust One Health governance as the foundation for One Health actions at the global, regional, and national levels. The event will also feature ministerial-level speakers from G20 countries, who will share their experiences in implementing a One Health approach across various sectors and discuss how joint efforts can generate greater impact. The G20 high-level meeting on One Health will be a closed-door event, however a press release will be shared with journalists shortly after the G20 Health Ministerial Meeting on 31 October. On World Cities Day, WHO will publish a collection of new tools designed to improve health in urban environments, including a new report showing how cities can address the rising challenges of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and injuries, plus a new urban health capacities assessment and response resource kit.
