Click here  Friday, 22 November 2024 MEDIA ADVISORY Second meeting of the International Health Regulations (2005) (IHR) Emergency Committee on the mpox upsurge The 2nd meeting of the Emergency Committee for the mpox upsurge, convened by the WHO Director-General under the International Health Regulations (IHR 2005), is being held today, 22 November 2024. Following their meeting, the Emergency Committee will advise the WHO Director-General as to whether the mpox upsurge still constitutes a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC). The Emergency Committee will also review the temporary recommendations issued to WHO and its Member States. The decision of the Director-General following the advice of the Emergency Committee will be shared after the meeting. The committee’s statement, once issued next week, will be shared with the media. The IHR Emergency Committee regarding the upsurge of mpox 2024 held its first meeting on 14 August 2024. On the same day, the WHO Director-General determined the event to constitute a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC), and, on 19 August 2024, he issued temporary recommendations to States Parties.
