Since its first identification in Tanzania in 1952, CHIKV has spread across 110+ countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. Currently, a major epidemic in Réunion Island (40,000 cases/week) is expanding across the region. CHIKV transmission persists in populations with low prior exposure, making vaccine research crucial. As part of WHO’s R&D Blueprint priority pathogens, this consultation will review existing vaccines, identify knowledge gaps, and discuss strategies to generate the best quality evidence for outbreak response.
