Based on the 2023 data from 104 countries, it provides, for the first time, resistance prevalence estimates for 22 antibiotics used to treat four major infection types: urinary tract, bloodstream, gastrointestinal and gonorrhoea. The report covers eight bacterial pathogens of public health concern – Acinetobacter spp., Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, non-typhoidal Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae — each linked to one or more of these infections. For the first time, country-level estimates of resistance prevalence and trends are included, offering new insights into AMR burden and surveillance progress worldwide. Materials are available to journalists under embargo (lifts at 09.00 CEST/07.00 GMT on 13 October); please send your request to smailbegovica@who.int with a copy to mediainquiries@who.int. Speakers:

As countries strive to strengthen their health systems and honor global commitments, the need for reliable, representative, and timely AMR data has never been greater. The WHO Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System (GLASS), launched in 2015, was established to meet this demand. Since its inception, GLASS has steadily expanded to support countries in building national surveillance systems, harmonizing data collection, and generating evidence to guide action. By the end of 2024, 138 countries and three territories and areas had joined GLASS, with over 100 contributing AMR data for 2023. The GLASS 2025 report is accompanied by expanded digital content available in the GLASS dashboard, which provides global and regional summaries, country profiles based on unadjusted surveillance coverage and AMR data, and detailed information on antimicrobial use.
