Friday, 24 July 2026 MEDIA ADVISORY WHO at the International AIDS ConferenceRio de Janeiro, Brazil | 26–31 July 2026The World Health Organization (WHO) will participate in AIDS 2026, the 26th International AIDS Conference, taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 26–31 July. WHO’s delegation will contribute to the conference through high-level participation, scientific sessions, policy discussions and the launch of a new report and key technical guidance. WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus will participate in the opening session on 27 July, as well as a high level commemoration of World Hepatitis Day on 28 July with the Brazil Ministry of Health. Highlights · 27 July: Opening session at 17:00 BRT (Brasilia time) · Launch of WHO's mid-term assessment of the Global Health Sector Strategies on HIV, viral hepatitis and STIs 2022–2030, providing the first global assessment of progress towards the 2030 targets. · Release of WHO's first consolidated HIV service delivery guidelines and new HIV surveillance guidance to support countries in strengthening prevention, testing, treatment, long-term care and routine surveillance. · WHO will present its latest recommendations on HIV and STI prevention, including guidance on long-acting HIV prevention and doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis (doxycycline PEP). · 28 July: World Hepatitis Day commemoration WHO will mark World Hepatitis Day under the theme "Hepatitis: Let's Break It Down," highlighting the urgent need to expand access to hepatitis prevention, testing, treatment and care, and remove the barriers that continue to leave millions without services For the full WHO programme, visit: WHO @ AIDS 2026 WHO technical experts will be available for interviews.
