NOTE FROM COMMUNITY MANAGER Following up on our Top Social Media News of 2020 special-edition newsletter, today we're sharing some of the most impactful social media marketing trends of the year.
As I said on Monday, the growth and transformation of social media marketing in 2020 was unlike anything we've seen in the past. COVID-19 hit the pause button on normal social interaction and, in response, both businesses and consumers turned to social media to connect with the world.
Early this year, marketers were forced to adjust their strategies to remain relevant. For example, we saw live social media events surge as in-person events were no longer an option. The rise of TikTok created an entirely new demand for highly-creative, short-form video skills. Private, niche groups became a new marketing favorite for community engagement. Social networks created new spaces for e-commerce brands of all sizes to shine. And with so many options to choose from, consumers began judging brands more heavily on their values, which brought an entirely new element into how brands communicate on social.
These are only a few of the major trends we saw impact social media marketers this year. Scroll down to read more about the ways social media has changed in 2020 and check out our predictions for 2021.
We'll be back to publishing new content and returning to your inbox as usual on Monday, Jan. 4. In the meantime, please share this link with colleagues to help them stay informed in the coming year: https://www.socialmediatoday.com/signup/refer/?signup_referred_by=5f93078d7aa51972095c9316
