Note from the editor

The pandemic upended much of higher education, including how colleges approached setting their tuition and fees. Many schools froze or even decreased their sticker prices, billing the moves as an acknowledgment that students and their families were struggling during the health crisis.

We looked at 50 of the top liberal arts colleges listed on U.S. News & World Report's ranking to see how the pandemic affected their pricing patterns.

Several trends emerged. For one, some of the schools that slashed their posted prices for the 2020-21 academic year have reversed those cuts for the upcoming year. And experts say college officials are likely eager to resume their usual tuition increases. Read more of our findings here.

We welcome your feedback on the project, so please let us know what you think.
