This eighth round of negotiations will be held in hybrid format until 1 March 2024, with the opening and closing sessions open publicly webcast. A joint plenary session with the Working Group on the International Health Regulations (2005) is scheduled to be held on Friday 23 February 2024. 19 - 22 FebruaryWHO Consultation on the Composition of Influenza Virus Vaccines for Use in the 2024-2025 Northern Hemisphere Influenza SeasonThe periodic replacement of viruses contained in influenza vaccines is necessary in order for the vaccines to be effective due to the constant evolving nature of influenza viruses, including those circulating and infecting humans. Twice annually, WHO organizes consultations with an advisory group of experts to analyze influenza virus surveillance data generated by the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System (GISRS), and issues recommendations on the composition of the influenza vaccines for the following influenza season. These recommendations are used by the national vaccine regulatory agencies and the pharmaceutical companies to develop, produce and license influenza vaccines. Read more here. Tuesday, 20 FebruaryLaunch of the Global Initiative on Digital HealthThe Global Initiative on Digital Health will launch virtually on February 20, 2024, from 14:00 to 15:30 CET. The Initiative is a network to amplify and align resources toward country-led digital health transformation, through strengthened collaboration and knowledge exchange. Among the initiative's objectives are building capacity and converging efforts to encourage local development and maintenance of digital health technologies, as well as their adaptation to continuously changing needs.WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus will give remarks alongside leaders from other UN agencies, development and government partners. Launch of WHO Operational framework for monitoring social determinants of health equityA technical webinar (14:00 - 15:00 CET) will be held to formally launch a new Operational framework for monitoring social determinants of health equity. The resource will support governments and their partners to monitor the social determinants of health and actions addressing them. It will also promote the use of data for policy action across sectors to improve health equity. Read more here for connection details. 20 - 22 FebruaryGlobal Chemicals and Health NetworkSecond in-person meeting of the WHO Global Chemicals and Health Network The WHO Global Chemicals and Health Network is a global forum for discussion among senior-level policy-makers and health ministry representatives to enhance health sector engagement and implementation of WHO Chemicals Road Map. The 2nd in-person meeting of the WHO Global Chemicals and Health Network will take place from 20 – 22 February 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland and includes four selected hybrid sessions to accommodate enhanced participation of Network members to address the impact of chemicals, waste and pollution on health. Wednesday, 21 FebruaryNCD Hard Talks webinar: Rewriting the script for NCDs: can implementation research change the game for policy and practice?13:00 – 14:30 CET In this NCD Hard Talk, we uncover the full impact that implementation research can have on NCDs.
