Note from the editor

Employers slip wanted ads into website source code, hoping that the right kind of software developers feel tempted to reach out.

Now, the practice isn't new, but its recent use by the Biden White House highlights another trend sped up by the pandemic: Companies can't thrive, can't survive, without technologists, and the race to attract and retain them is heated.

One way companies are contending with this talent need is by reskilling the workers they have, pledging resources into upskilling programs and reimagining their overall approach to talent.

External talent hunting is also getting a makeover. In 2021, elements of gamification are creeping into recruiting to find tech talent, my colleague Katie Malone writes.
